We're going to start talking about Smartdraw that this software offers us so that we can draw up a very complete and highly customizable network diagram.

What can we do with this software

A network diagram can be defined as a visual representation of a network architecture. Thus, we can trace the structure of a network with a lot of symbols for the interpretation of routers, switches, as well as all the wired connections that are in the local network. Now it's your turn to start using Smartdraw. After starting the program, a welcome screen similar to the following will appear:

On the left-hand side are project types what we can accomplish. Here are some sample projects:

• Engineering.
• Commercial and residential floor plans.
• Decision trees.
• Infographics.
• Organization charts.

On first launch, Network diagrams selected by default. Since we want to present a small network so you can see what it looks like, we are in the right position. On the right we have project templates choose the one that suits us best. At the top we have File marked in red, which we will discuss briefly below.

As you can see, this is a typical section that we usually find in any main program menu. In this case, its most important functions are:

• Open documents to start working with them directly.
• Import Visio drawings.
• Save and save as to store our projects.
• Various online functions.
• Activate your license to activate the program when purchasing a license.

• line (left): make different line types for connecting devices.
• Text : add text.
• line (right): to color the lines.
• effects : Used to set effects on some objects. For example, put a drop shadow on a rectangle.

Third section Computers and Servers where are the icons that we can use to build our network. By simply double-clicking the selected symbol, it will appear in our workspace. If we click on the work icon, it will be enclosed in a square with four direction arrows.

In the case of pulling one of the 4 arrows next to us, another identical command will be created. for example, this is what would happen if we pulled the arrow to the right.

The fourth section below the icons that we can use contains a series of arrows and has a behavior very similar to what I just explained. For example, if we click on Add right, the team we have chosen will be placed on the right.

Finally, the fifth part will work in a similar way. In this case, I would add two more to the command from which it starts in the indicated direction, in order to eventually form a set of three (they do not have to be the same).

Creating an example network

Now that we have the basic concepts needed to get started with the program, we are going to create a small office network diagram using Smartdraw Network Diagram. The network will consist of the following elements:

• A Wi-Fi router that provides Internet access.
• FTP server.
• File server.
• Three desktop PCs that employees work on.

As you can see, this is a simple web, but you can do whatever you want. Other elements to add: web server, firewall, cloud, and more. Your imagination is the limit for creating this network. Thanks to Smartdraw Network Diagram, we can get a visual representation of the architecture of our network.
